Processing Corrections Requests

Consumers have the right to direct a business to correct inaccurate personal information . The goal of the request is to correct information that is incorrect, like a misspelled name, wrong address, and so on.

The normal request information is at the top. As the consumer is requesting that information be changed in your records, a reasonably-high degree of certainty is required. Four identifiers must match your records.

Processing Corrections Requests - Step 1

 

The consumer provides their interactions with your organization in the request. Then the consumer must verify their email and phone number (MFA style) for the request to be processed.

 

After the consumer verifies the email and phone, you must manually verify that the consumer's identifiers match your records. Check your CRM and DMS and mark yes or no for each identifier based on your records.

If the consumer is verified in your records, click "Next."

 

On step two, you will be provided the information the consumer has requested be corrected. You can also view the documentation provided by the consumer by clicking the eye icon. The consumer is required to provide appropriate documentation to support the correction in order for the request to be processed.

 

Mark yes or no to the correction. There is also a place to choose an exemption for why you will not make the correction. The exemptions include inaccessible format and disproportionate effort. Click "Next" to move to the next page.

 

On step three, you may need to pass on the correction to vendors that you have shared the consumer's data with. The list of vendors is generated automatically and you must correct the information manually and then mark for each vendor if the information was corrected, could not correct, or was not applicable. The same exemptions here may be marked if the correction was not made. Click "Next."

 

On step four, finalize the email to notify the customer of the request's outcome. Click "Finish" when the email has been finalized.

 

Based on the request process, if vendors need to be notified, it will automatically generate. You can review the email that will be sent by clicking the envelope icon. Vendor emails will automatically be sent when you click "Finish."

 

Click "Confirm" to finish processing the request.

 

Correction requests may also be submitted through the request portal by an authorized agent.

 

The agent must provide documentation. You must then mark yes or not to verifying the authenticity and language of the document. After the verification is complete, hit "Next" and process the request using the steps above.
